Basics
Boxes are useful for two things:
- Making it easy to find photos that meet certain search criteria
- Making it easy to bulk tag photos
Quickly Find Photos
Have you ever wanted to immediately see all of the photos of the kids'
"away" football games? Or maybe you want to keep track of the
"Photos for Scrapping" selections (almost like a "to-do"
list)?
Well, boxes are your answer.
Boxes allow you to save frequently-used Tag searches and give it a friendly
"name."
As you know, you can click on some Who tags, a Where tag or two, maybe
some What tags, and you see the resultant photos that meet that set of
criteria.
If you frequently want to see this grouping of photos, you can save the
set of Tags in your filter as a "Box" (use ).
Boxes can be temporary...
You can use boxes for a temporary need—such as bulk tagging—and
then delete the box. None of your photos are affected by deleting a box.
Boxes for tagging
Maybe you just want to create a box so that you can drag new photos into
it and easily perform mass tagging?
Lets say you just got back from a ski vacation, and the majority of the
photos fit a set of tags like
- Who was there,
- Where it was, and
- What it was... Davos Ski Vacation, Ski, Snow
Simply create the box with the desired tags. Next, select all of the
trip photos (could be hundreds). Drag the selected photos into the box—they
all get the tags of the box. Now you can open the box and work on the
pictures to refine the tagging.
Boxes or Stories?
Unlike stories, the photos in the box can change over time as new photos
are tagged and meet the box criteria. Think of a box as dynamically showing
the photos that match. What you see today could be different from what
you might see in a month after you add more photos with tags that match
a box's tag set.
Stories, on the other hand, are simply static collections of photos of
your choosing. The tags on the photos in the stories do not matter.
